Shaun Hussey

Shaun Hussey will develop and deliver strategies that utilize web, social media and email marketing technologies to build and enhance Rose-Hulman’s relationships with external audiences and increase institutional brand awareness and loyalty.

In this new position, Hussey will help develop and deliver strategies that utilize web, social media and email marketing technologies to achieve communications and marketing goals, build and enhance Rose-Hulman’s relationships with external audiences, and increase institutional brand awareness and loyalty.

Hussey also will supervise execution and analysis of Rose-Hulman’s digital campaigns, and develop digital solutions based on consumer behavior and data.

Since joining Rose-Hulman’s staff in late 2015 as email marketing and social media manager, Hussey has helped develop and execute several social media campaigns for the institute. There has been a 50-percent increase in visits to Rose-Hulman’s website from social media posts and a 93-percent increase in audience clicks to information within email campaigns.

A #RoseHulmanGetsMe project earned first-place honors in 2017 from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education’s Pride of CASE V Awards Program. The ongoing campaign is directed at students who are admitted to the institute to study science, engineering, computer science, or math (STEM)—areas historically considered nerdy. The students’ official acceptance packet includes a pair of punch-out black “nerd” glasses, complete with tape on the nosepiece. Recipients are encouraged to take a selfie wearing the glasses and post their photo to social media with the tagline #rosehulmangetsme.

In 2016, Hussey’s social media skills were a valuable part of Rose-Hulman’s “Future Faces of STEM,” a grassroots effort to help advance women in STEM fields by showcasing current female students and alumnae to prospective students. The campaign helped increase female student and faculty enrollment on campus.

A #HowINerd project, started Aug. 1, is encouraging prospective students, current students, alumni and others to join faculty and staff members in sharing their quirky hobbies or projects by posting a photo or short video on social media.

Before coming to Rose-Hulman, Hussey was executive editor and art director of Terre Haute Living magazine and web development director and graphic designer for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star. He also was a web developer for the daily newspaper’s ownership group, CNHI, and production manager for Indiana State University’s student newspaper, Indiana Statesman, while studying graphic design, marketing, radio/TV/film and psychology at the university.

Hussey has been actively involved in the Terre Haute community, serving as a tour guide for the Swope Art Museum, a volunteer in the arts and culture section of the Vigo County Public Library, and a tour guide for the Terre Haute Children’s Museum.
